1st edition of the Fundación Jesús Serra Research Prize
Our Foundation is launching the first edition of the Fundación Jesús Serra Research Prize with the aim of acknowledging the excellent standard of the work carried out by Spanish scientists in epidemiology and basic, clinical and technological research within the fields of diet, nutrition and health.
Dra. Maria A. Blasco
President of the jury. A doctor in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (1993), she is the Director of the CNIO (Spanish National Centre for Cancer Research) and leads its Telomeres and Telomerase group.
Dra. Mercedes Rincón
Professor in the Department of Medicine – Division of Immunobiology at UVM (University of Vermont).
Dr. Carlos Macaya Miguel
Head of Cardiology at the Hospital Clínico San Carlos in Madrid and President of the Fundación Española del Corazón (Spanish Heart Foundation).
Prof. Lina Badimon
Director of the Cardiovascular Science Institute (ICCC) and CSIC Professor at the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau.
Dr. Pedro Mata López MD, PhD
President and founder of the Fundación Hipercolesterolemia Familiar (Familial Hypercholesterolemia Foundation)
Jesús Serra Santamans was born in Pont de Vilomara, a small village near Manresa, Barcelona, in 1911. He was a well-known figure, particularly having founded the Grupo Catalana Occidente. Like his father, he dedicated his entire career to the insurance business and became one of the sector’s most important figures in Spain in the 20th century.
